Actor/Writer
A native New Yorker, Gameela took the scenic route to acting. Starting out in grade school doing school plays whenever possible and hamming it up for her family whenever they could stand it, she soon found her way to dance and got accepted into the prestigious Dance Theater of Harlem. When a physical injury sidelined a dance career, Gameela went the business route, working in advertising while getting her BA in both Psychology and Marketing at the CUNY Baccalaureate Program.
She is forever grateful to her ad agency for laying off her division – for that is when she decided to finish up school full-time. While taking a class at Hunter College, Gameela saw a flyer for auditions for Twelfth Night. Realizing that the “gnawing” feeling she always felt was her long-ignored childhood dream of being an actor, she decided to try out, though she had no formal training. She was cast as Maria and went on to do three other Shakespearean productions. Gameela then went back to school and has studied with Terry Schreiber and Wynn Handman to name a few. She has gone on to do theater, television, film and commercials and is proud to call herself a working actor.
